Ioannis Vergoullis

University of Athens, Greece in 1999. He received his Certificate in Periodontics and Masters degree in Oral Biology from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, New Orleans, USA in 2005.
Dr. Vergoullis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a Fellow and Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI). He is also an International member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the ICOI and an honorary member of the Aesthetic Academies of Greece, Lithuania and Bulgaria. Dr. Vergoullis has been an invited keynote speaker in several international meetings in Greece, Spain, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Netherlands, USA and Germany and his main topic of interest is soft tissue management around implants. Dr Vergoullis is the leading Periodontist at the Vergoullis Dental Clinic in Rhodes, Greece and a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Periodontics Department at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, USA. Dr. Vergoullis is the co-inventor of the Cervico System by VPI and currently holds twenty-two patents in the field of Dental Implantology.

Simple and predictable protocols for soft tissue profile management around implants

Literature shows that around 75% of cases affected by peri-implantitis present inadequate prosthesis design that does not allow efficient plaque control. The biggest obstacle for the design of a biologically sound prosthesis is the lack of anatomical soft tissue profiling that will allow the cervical margin of the prosthesis to coincide with the cervical margin of the tissue. Current methods of soft tissue profiling have failed to become standard of care since they increase the time and cost of treatment but also require high clinical dexterity. The purpose of this lecture is to present modern protocols that can allow the maintenance, or re-establishment of an anatomical soft tissue profile around partially edentulous cases in an easy, cost and time effective manner.

Masterclass: Guidelines for the design and fabrication of biologically and prosthetically sound anatomical healers

An anatomical healer (AH) is the first element connected with an implant and its role on the proper development of the implant supra-crestal complex is critical. The shape, dimensions, and emergence angles of the different zones of the AH interact with the crestal bone and the corresponded zones of the supra-crestal soft tissue and can have a direct impact on both early bone remodeling and peri-implant seal establishment. The purpose of this workshop is to provide clear directions with respect to the ideal design, fabrication, and treatment of an AH in different clinical scenarios.
